Quite often people say, “don’t sweat the small stuff”, in an attempt to encourage friends and colleauges to reduce their stress levels. However, if you want to see results in your health, fitness, body compostion, mental attitude and so on, lazer focus on the “small stuff” is your foundation to success.
Without a strong foundation, results are likely to be short lived or even hard to come by in the first place. It’s true, anything can work for the first 3-6 weeks, when willpower is strong and the routines are new but when we are 3, 4 months down the line and eating broiled chicken and brocolli 3 times a day is wearing way thin, those lack of realistic and essential foundations will cause cracks in your progress. So what foundations am I talking about? Any of the following examples will be essential if you are serious about making a lifetime commitment to a happier and healthier life:
1. Daily Vitamins
2. 2 litres of water per day
3. Daily mindfulness/mediation
4. 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week
5. Stretching exercises 3/4 times a week.
6. Menu planning
7. Batch cooking
8. Having support – an accountability buddy
9. Having a real goal – something that gets you fired up. Go for something BIG
10. Veggies and protein with every meal
One easy way to implement this is to draw yourself a chart, 10 rows down and 30 columns across. In each row, write yourself one thing that you could do, to get you nearer to you goal (like above) – but make sure they are in line with YOUR goal. Then, each time you carry out one of the activities, give yourself a tick/gold star/hapy face – watch how your motivation grows as you see more ticks and those ticks turning in to results.
